Ambassador MIZUKOSHI Visited School and Health Clinic with WFP

On the 25th of October, Ambassador Mizukoshi participated in a handover ceremony at a school in Madiwala and a maternal & health clinic, where the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) extended Emergency Food Assistance and Nutrition Support through the fund by the Japanese Government. The event was graced by the esteemed presence of Mr. Abdur Rahim Siddiqui, the Representative and Country Director of WFP Sri Lanka.

At Sri Rahula Maha Vidyalaya, the ambassador personally served school meals to the students. Witnessing the heartfelt joy on the children’s faces as they enjoyed their meals highlighted the profound impact of our collective support. Additionally, during the visit to the maternal and health clinic in Udahamulla, the ambassador distributed packs of Thriposha to pregnant mothers, engaging with them and gaining insight into their personal experiences, thereby emphasizing the crucial role of our collaborative efforts.

Japan has contributed a total of over USD 10 million since the initiation of WFP’s emergency operation in June 2022. To date, this humanitarian assistance has reached nearly 2 million beneficiaries, including school children and pregnant or breastfeeding mothers impacted by the severe economic crisis.
